Let me start off by saying that I’ve never been a big jewelry person, despite having a fair amount of it. I have some lovely vintage pieces courtesy of my grandmother, and over the years have accumulated a few nice little baubles myself – a Tiffany ring that feels too precious for me to actually wear, for example – but in an everyday sort of way I typically wear only my diamond stud earrings and usually not much else. *shrug*
So it should come as no surprise that when I was offered the chance to create a style profile with JewelMint and get some free jewelry, I had no earthly idea what I was doing. In creating my profile I went through their process step-by-step and dutifully picked things therein I *thought* reflected my overall style — minimalist, classic, not flashy — only to discover that my taste in jewelry is in fact sort of, umm, radically diverges from my taste in clothing and other things. I DON’T KNOW WHY EITHER. SOME THINGS ARE JUST MYSTERIES FOR THE AGES AND A LADY HAS A RIGHT TO CHANGE HER MIND ANYWAY, OKAY? I AM TOO A LADY, SHUT UP.
As I looked over the jewelry items JewelMint picked for me based on my profile and made my final jewelry item selections, what became rapidly and abundantly clear to me is that where jewelry is concerned I like chunky, modern, industrial and “edgy” designs, NOT subdued, classic ones. When I finally looked at all the items I’d picked together, I was honestly kind of surprised by my own choices, weird as that sounds:

Seventies Flair ring - consumes my ring finger from knuckle to joint. Huge and abstract. LOVE.

Metal Mosaic ring - I love the dimensional layers of this. Very postmodern chic.

Renegade necklace - Industrial sexy timez nao. When the boyfriend saw this he emitted a low growl of arousal... and that's all I'm going to say about that.

Lady Noir rings - modern simplicity, for when I'm feeling ladylike, dammit!

Carnaby bangle - I love the off-kilter shape of this. PS: Wood. Heh-heh.

Aqua Bomb ring - modern primitive, and the blue is a gorgeously delicate robin's egg blue.
Also surprising? HOW MUCH I LOVE THESE PIECES. I honestly couldn’t tell what the quality of the items were just by looking at them on the site, but I was hugely pleased when I got them and saw just how solid and well-made they are. This is real grown up jewelry for big people and stuff, ladies.
