About

Hiya, I’m Tracey.

I’m a PhD dropout, prototypical Gen-Xer, smartass, and professional writer/editor. I live with my evil genius 9-year-old daughter (think the girl from “Little Miss Sunshine” meets Dr. Horrible), my baker boyfriend, and a gaggle of assorted insane pets, in beautiful Baltimore, Maryland.

The cast of characters around these parts includes:

The Boyfriend, Charlie.

My nine-year-old daughter, The Kid.

Our six-year-old pug, Truman.

Our two-year-old Lab, Locke aka Yellow Dog.

Our Pomeranian puppy, Lemmy aka Fruit Bat Stuffs.

I started this blog back in 2004, when I was a married stay-at-home mom to a toddler, unsteadily navigating though the world of playgroups and desperate housewives in a new city (Baltimore) while trying to remain sane and connected. Then, back in 2009, my husband and I called it quits.

Now I’m a single mom to a 9-year-old (EEK!), struggling to balance my job as a work-from-home writer/editor, motherhood, my devotion to bad reality TV, and a boyfriend, with varying degrees of success. Our life borders on the chaotic at times for sure, but we mostly have a blast finding our way through the crazy (translation: we drink A LOT of wine).

If you’re new to the joint, I’d recommend perusing the Best of Archives for backstory. Only the best for you, new reader.

Besides writing here, I’m the Co-Founder and Overlord of MamaPop, the gossip & pop culture site for parents, and MoxieBird, the news & lifestyle site for parents. I also started a foodie blog for parents – Foodie Parent – with my boyfriend. As if all this weren’t enough, I have a blog at Babble.com called Sweetney & Spice (clever, right? heh).

If you’re looking for a press page, you can find that here. If you’d like to get in touch, you can email me at sweetney AT sweetney.com.

Please make yourself at home.
