You probably already own it, but American Idiot by Green Day is so undeniably awesome.

Room Noises by Eisley
Because I could listen to Sherri DuPree's voice all day.

Music Has the Right to Children by Boards of Canada.
Matchless, peerless, and truly a thing of great beauty. Favorite tracks "roygbiv", "aquarius", and "olson" (but not a single dog on the whole CD).

Posted by: xlt | April 20, 2005 at 11:35 PM
todd - i LOVE that album. one of my all-time faves, actually.
Posted by: sweetney | April 20, 2005 at 11:37 PM
Good. I let somebody borrow my copy about, oh, about eight years ago. Can you do me a solid and burn a copy.
Ooops! Um, hey, I was just kidding RIAA! Heh-heh. *ULP!*
So, my next suggestion is At Action Park by Shellac. Got that one?
Posted by: xlt | April 21, 2005 at 12:10 AM
this also reminds me that sweetney should make me an indie rock mix of things I would probably like but never had the oppurtunity to get into...

"The Living Road" by Lhasa
"Arular" by M.I.A.
The Life Aquatic with Steve Zissou Soundtrack
"Laughter Through Tears" by Oi Va Voi
if i had to pick one, i'd pick lhasa. saw her in concert last month; incredible.
ps-glad you found john again.

1. self-titled by the brazilian girls (ohsexygood)
2. i second the motion for the new green day album, and this is coming from someone who hates green day. it really is that good.
3. rilo kiley, more adventurous
4. self-titled by martha wainwright
word.

damn, i didn't follow directions. you asked for one cd. in that case, go with my first suggestion.
-runs with scissors, too
Posted by: malice | April 21, 2005 at 10:06 AM
Television "Raddle Moon";
Rolling Stones "Let it Bleed";
The new Bloc Party;
Bright Eyes "Fevers and Mirrors";
Jay-Z "Unplugged";
Jurassic 5, anything;
Tricky, "Maxinquay"
(Obviously biased, as living with you means I'd get these CDs, too)

afghan whigs - 1965
les rhythmes digitales - darkdancer

Posted by: debbie | April 21, 2005 at 12:14 PM

cause drugs, golden showers and underwear are such good subjects to sing about.
Posted by: mighty! | April 21, 2005 at 02:07 PM
I'd have to second the Boards of Canada reccomendation. ("Happy Cycling" is far and away the best track however.)
Second in line would be Skylarking, by XTC.
Posted by: bill | April 21, 2005 at 07:39 PM
it's not rock, but...
millions now living will never die by Tortoise
Michigan by Sufjan Stevens is only folk rockin', so I won't recommend that either.
I've been into Flin Flon lately, they have an EP called chicoutimi. That is pretty good.
Posted by: brian | April 21, 2005 at 09:14 PM
wow. that's a lot of suggestions.
brian: jamie loves flin flon, and we have tons of their stuff. my only quibble with them is that i have a hard time getting out of my head a story i was told by a close friend involving a visit to mark robinson's house and a viewing of his elaborate shrine to michael jackson. i shit you not. dude is creepy.
kevin: i'm a long-time BTS fan, actually. that album is the pinacle of their near-ELOish epic rock sound.
malice & eve: werd on the green day. i was a hater, throwing my haterade on them, but now i am filled with rainbows, puppy dogs and love for the GD.
all the rest of ya'll: i'm-a gonna look into the shizzle. danke.
