thoughts after watching the documentary film “DIG!” last night.

[for your ready reference]

1. the complexity of these people's psychological messed-up-ness deserves attention and extensive study by JAMA.

2. i knew far too many people like this in my 20s. seriously.

3. why is it so often the case that the assholes get all the charisma?

4. i have never heard a single complete song by either of these bands. and by the end of the film i still can't decide if that's a good or bad thing.

5. BJM may have some of the best album titles EVER: “Their Satanic Majesties' Second Request”; “Take It From the Man”; “Thank God For Mental Illness”...SHEER GENIUS.

6. you (yes, YOU) should see this.

We watched that recently, I think on Sundance or something. I have never before wanted so badly to slap every single person involved in a documentary film. I'm thinking really hard right now about whether there was anyone at all featured in the movie that I didn't HATE, and I got nothin'.

angela -- oh yeah. that film is remarkable, if only for the incredible egocentrism of each and every single person in it. its a masterpiece of self-delusion, self-aggrandizement and self-destruction. i think the word that kept popping out of my mouth was "ridiculous" -- as in: can you believe how ridiculous these people are? (the answer of course being "no. it is beyond belief and all comprehension.")

I loved this film. I could not believe what a fucking baby Anton was! I recognize that there is a certain artfulness to his madness but I can't help but feel like he could have saved popular music if he hadn't been such a self-destructive twat!

And, I want Joel's job, or former job. I want to be totally wrecked and dance on stage with a tambourine! He's a little bit like Bez from the Happy Mondays.

i hope a band i actually like never makes a film like that...though i liked watching it...it reminded me of the people on VH1's short lived reality band show...but ultimately i think there's a reason why bands like this are so obsessed with big labels, because they have no other idea of the point of rock music besides tired cartoon rock life of most where are they now shows
that said the girl in dandy warhols is freaking cute
