in need of an exorcism.
what do you do when you're feeling down, stuck in a rut, and full of general blahness about life and the world? what rituals, spells and incantations do you deploy? what helps you get through, lifts you up, sets things straight in your mind?
no, i'm really asking.

I visit a city...like, say, Pittsburgh...and stay with e-friends...for instance, me.
;-)
I hope you feel better.

Come to Utah, take your panties off (in no particular order), and we will show you a good time.
When I am really feeling freaky, I go for long long walks. Maybe you could walk to Utah. We have porn here (wink, wink).
Hang in there.

I go hiking somewhere. Nature has an uncanny way of reenergizing me and reminding me of the beauty in this world. My favorite spot to go is Gettysburg. Yes, it has a sad history in that thousands of men (and hundreds of women) died on those battlefields but at the same time it is so incredibly beautiful, peaceful, and rich that you can't help but fall in love with it.
Also, there is something about being out in the open that helps open my mind so that I can work through things. Plus, hiking is excellent exercise and exercise is a great physical way to pound out the frustrations.

Give myself license to sit for awhile and not do anything but think/feel about what's going on with me. It usually helps me sort things out.
Oh- I also give myself license to eat chocolate ;)

Kelly's not too far off. Just got back from Utah and feeling funky fresh. Check out my fabulous vacation pics.
If I can't fit in or afford a trip to Utah, and cut and/or dye job really helps.

Lame answer? Redesign the blog.
Better advice? Get a sitter and spend the day pampering myself with manicures, makeup purchases even though I rarely wear makeup, and yeah, probably a hair-do.
Hang in there sweetie.

I take all the marshmellows out of the Count Chocula so when my brother goes to have some the next morning all he gets is the cereal part. Yep, I'm a sadistic biotch.

if the requisite shopping is not helping, you need to remove yourself from your current environment and go out and do something fun and just for yourself.
the offer to come have a sleepover always stands, lady. and there are a buncha diversions i can think of in and around my 'hood that will make us forget about toddlers and housework!

here's what i've done so far today:
1. had M_ watched most of the day by friends and now our babysitter,
2. treated myself to a homemade blueberry muffin at the local cafe,
3. remembered i have a gift certificate that jamie gave me for our anniversary to a local spa; am now scheduled for a massage & manicure/pedicure (ooh! how girly!) on sunday;
4. took 1/2 a xanax;
5. fondled our newly-arrived dyson -- anyone want me to come over and vacuum anything?
sigh. i'm wishing i hadn't lent our copy of 'harold & kumar..." to that jason dude. fie!

My fail-safe totally temporary fix: throw your hands in the air. Straight up, in 'hurrah' position. Guaranteed short-term mood elvevator.

Are you walking yet? You should be in St. Louis by next Tuesday. Utah is beckoning you.

You know those photos you posted? Of your garden?
That is where I go. That is what I do.

If I'm in a total funk, I splurge on a small box of Godiva truffles or a pint of Ben and Jerry's, and watch my absolute favorite movies in my pajamas...it could take all day, or it could take all weekend, but it usually works. Oh, and oooh...Dyson.

Mud pies. I swear. Grab the nearest kid, a hose, some aluminum foil pie plates and go make mud pies. When I was a nanny the kids put me on to this. It's very theraputic and the most difficult part is reaching up high on a tree for evergreen branches to use for decorating the top.
When you need to unwind away from the kids, start a mosaic tile project. Smashing plates fixes almost everything that's wrong with your day. You'll need safety glasses and I suggest cool home-made ones with hot-glued feathers and rhinestones.

i need to know this too....
just ended a relationship in the past week, and so far to get by i have:
-cried
-had waaaay to much ben and jerry's "in a crunch" ice cream
-shopped
-listened to loud music
-done crafts
-cried some more
-gone on walks
-stayed in my pjs all day
-watched a favourite movie
-gotten drunk (a couple of times)
but i still need more things to get me out of the funk. sigh. break ups suck.

play "bone machine" by the pixies at ear splitting volume and scream along at the top of your lungs - works wonders for me.
"he bought me a soooodaaaah....he bought me a sooodahhh and tried to molest me in the parking lot...YEP! YEP! YEP! YEP!" drugs are suggested but not mandatory. repeat until said funk returns to wherever it is they go.
