I would totally agree, but it's not as easy to think of it that way when it's barreling toward your house and everyone you hold dearest. Wish us luck... Looks like we're all going to need it.

i feel for you and everyone in rita's path -- the magnitude of these storms is unbelievable. i hope the feds have their shit together enough to be *ON THE GROUND* when rita hits.

the personal/individual side of a natural disaster like this is heartbreaking, genuinely. but i have to say that i *do* wholly believe that this is, in essence, a mess of our collective making. and while i feel for you and all the individuals in harm's way, i also think humankind is reaping what it sowed in a global sense.

I didn't detect schadenfreude in your post -- and I have to say I'm damn glad to see that more people are overtly talking about the link between the changing climate to the increased prevalence of these kinds of storms. (I'm starting to wonder what's gonna happen when they have more than 26 tropical storms in a season -- will they have to warn us about Hurricane Aardvark?)

It's horrible, it's devastating, and it's what makes me want to move to high ground. (OK, psycho-expensive housing prices in Boston and its environs are another motivator, I admit.) I may be a pessimistic mofo, but the carnage we've caused to this planet is going to bite us back but good. And I for one am NOT complacent about it.
