Umm, Engrish?

Oooh! I just got a Flickr photo comment from some French person! Fancy! And so inter-na-cion-ale!

Anyone willing to translate this for me [scroll to last comment]?

Incidentally, I don't believe in those web-based language translators (well, I mean I know they exist, I just think they're less-than-accurate), so please don't send me output from one of those. I want a real human brain on this.

Mmm.... brains....

So, I was forced into taking French in college because the four years of fluent Spanish I got in High School wasn't acceptable for my major. (Vocal performance. We had to take French, Italian and German. I changed majors after the second semester so I could cut that quad-lingual crap out.)

So, best I can conjure from my flailing French, it says something like:
"It's so sad to see such a beautiful woman crying, I can't think of a reason she would, you should smile for the photographer!

But then again, I could be totally off, he might be asking Melissa to marry him.

Yeah, I don't know why I commented either.

i'm guessing that's probably pretty accurate. i mean, it sounds reasonable.

what a frenchman: "its so sad to see such a beautiful woman crying..." i bet he says that to all the weepy women bloggers.

Yeah, I was pretty much going to say the same thing:

"Oh how sad it is to see a pretty woman crying. I do not know the reason."

The last part doesn't really make sense. Madame Evans, my French teacher from 1996, would kill me for being too tired to figure it out. A command to smile. And then maybe he was trying to say "you are being photographed" which is kind of what it looks like but with weird grammar and the wrong verb ending.

Must have had too much VIN ROUGE. Him, I mean, not me. Though maybe me too.

If he fed me that line, I would totally bite.
I'm so not proud of that.

I was going for the same translation, except the last line would be, "Smile, you are a photographer!"

alrighty:

"Oh, how sad it is to see a beautiful woman cry! I don't know the reason. Smile, you're being photographed!"

yes, other people have translated this, I know, but I wanted to comment and boast with the little French I have.

I was a French minor in college. This more or less translates to: "Oh, I felt the same way on the day that Disney invaded our beautiful motherland and compelled my little daughter to trade her beret for a pair of mouse ears and a Big Mac."

oh mom101, HOW I WISH that was the translation! hilarious!

Aw, man...my brain was "a bit off."
