Panda of my heart

Today's Flashback Question: My Favorite Thing (Or, 'These Are A Few Of...') - post a picture of an object or objects (we know that your children are your most valued whatevers, but we're going OBJECTS here. Books, art, photos, mementos, shoes, garden gnomes, television set, whatever) that is/are dear to your heart. What would you grab if your house were on fire?

teddy.
Me & Teddy, circa 1972

At first I thought about some of the old jewelry I have, passed down to me from now-deceased ancestors. Then I thought about some cherished books and irreplaceable photographs, both charting out memories of my youth. And yes, I did think about my computer -- just for a fleeting second, I'm not a total asshole -- and how much work it would take to even partially reconstruct its contents. The horror... the horror....

But honestly? Teddy is the only object I can imagine cutting a sizable gash in my heart if I were to lose it. The only object I own that is bound to me in a way that that feels almost primally, gutwrenchingly emotional. And hey, listen, I know it's irrational, and perhaps even a little dumb -- I'm thirty-seven freakin' years old for crissakes, not THREE -- but I'd dump the lot of antique jewelry I own to save his fuzzy old ass from a fire.

Teddy currently lives in M's bedroom, not in mine, mind you. I may be sentimental and prone to irrational fits of nostalgia, but I'm NOT fucking creepy, man.

What about you? What's your most cherished, will-snatch-from-a-fire-above-all-else favorite thing?

I have a box filled with notes from friends since elementary school, random trinkets, concert tickets, photos documenting the fact that at various points in my life I had no fashion sense, ultrasound pics and other random but sentimental crap. I would totally grab that box and run if it wasn't so damn big.

Glad you aren't fucking creepy. Though I had a hard time giving up MY George to Bumper - but you are right, he lives in her room now otherwise I'd be THAT lady.

I did my flashback and while I did think the laptop would be easier to grab, the box under my bed had more heart tugging treasures to offer.

Erm, for me, it would probably still be my computer. But there's lots of photos on it! So that's kind of saving multiple things at once.

I know it's kinda morbid but, the jewelry would most likely survive a fire so leave it you'll get it back, heh. I think I would grab my box of photographs it's the only thing I might really miss later and maybe my steve madden's but that's two damn.

DUDE, you're the cutest thing I've ever seen.

Oh, my god, I SOOOO want to hug mini-you? Is that wrong?

what an awesome photo.

Well, damnit, if everyone else didn't already say, "OMG, YOU ARE SO CUTE" I'd say it. Instead I'll just say I'm happy to be yer betch.

I so get this! I have an old Teddy and a musical Doggie that are very near, and dear, to my heart.

Me, I just want a current picture of you and your Teddy!

Love the picture! And I'm glad that Teddy lives in your child's room. You can always visit. :)

While we were packing up and downsizing our house to move, there were only two things that I wanted, more than anything else: a little plastic turtle that my dad got me. He sits on a cardboard stand that says "Goals in life are never as far away as they seem. Take one step at a time and you will relize every dream." The other, which I didn't find, but firmly believe is NOT lost, is an old picture of my dad, about postage-stamp size, from the late 30's/early 40's.

Yeah, I'm still a daddy's girl at 38. Dad passed away a few years ago, but would have been 87 this year.

Grab the panda - but definitely grab that photo too.

My favorite things would be my camera and a 1940s rubber doll my grandmother gave me.
