Behold the dancing monkey!

Mama Speaks has a post up about Sleep Is For The Weak that contains interviews with Editor Rita Arens, and contributors Doug French (Laid Off Dad) and myself. I talk a bit about what subjects I *won't* blog about (almost nothing, am shameless), how I got into blogging (was lured by the sex and drugs), and how I feel about the "mommyblogger" label (am considering tattooing it on one or both asscheeks), among other things. Yes indeedy, it's a thrill-a-minute -- hold onto your hats and PREPARE TO BE DAZZLED! (I do mention Language Poetry at one point. And I...

It's lovely! I'll take it!

A collection of poorly chosen photos from real estate listings. Frightening and hilarious, in equal measure. Link

Welcome to the Jungle

New York Magazine's excerpt from new GnR bio Watch You Bleed: The Saga of Guns N’ Roses - worth a read. As Axl Rose purportedly makes final preparations to put out Chinese Democracy any minute now, Stephen Davis, the esteemed rock biographer behind 1985's classic Hammer of the Gods: The Led Zeppelin Saga, is releasing his long-awaited Watch You Bleed: The Saga of Guns N' Roses via Gotham Books today. In it, Davis traces GN'R's illustrious history all the way back to Rose's origins as a disaffected Indiana kid named Bill Bailey. After the jump, in an exclusive excerpt from...

Killing Us Softly 3

I saw this years ago, of course, but watching it again tonight as a mother I think my mind got kind of blown all over again. So important for any woman to see this, but perhaps especially mothers of young girls. (Thanks, Karen!)

Golden Slumbers

The light, everything about the moment, was perfect and serene. But I couldn't watch her without thinking about how big she'd gotten -- her long white legs dragging along the wooden floorboards beneath the swing as it moved. I couldn't look at her and not note all the evidence of change, the telltale signs of her growing up and into the middle years of...

In which I sort of lose my cool

I got a little, erm, feisty in my most recent MamaPop post, on the book "Brocabularly": ...just because your friends think your rendition of Mister Mister's "Broken Wings" is electrifying at Tuesday night Karaoke doesn't mean you should actively pursue a record deal, though you could try. Similarly, just because your drinking buddies think it's fucking hilarious when you put "Bro" in front of common words and thereby doucheify them with the linguistic equivalent of a penis-shaped sledgehammer doesn't mean you should be writing that shit down.
