For Auld Lang Syne - 2009
What better way to close out the year than by looking back at where I've been? To that end, here are my 12 favorite Sweetney posts of 2009, one for every month of the year:
- Cairo
- Nineteen
- Lament
- I swear by all that is right and good in this world that this isn't some kind of covert Disney plug
- Saturday
- Songs mean a lot, when songs are bought, and so are you
- Wonderwall
- Grown up
- Golem
- In Defense of Kanye West
- Prophet
- Beauty and broken things
I'm going to do something a bit different this year and ask that each of you, in return, provide a link in comments to your own favorite post of the year. This could be one you yourself authored (feel free!) or something by someone else... in either case, please share the love!
This song's for you, my friends... Out of the darkness, and into the fire:
The Walkmen - "In The New Year"
And finally, as I do every year, to all the haters, trolls, and damn fools, I dedicate the following:
I'll see you in the new year. xo

That is my favorite scene in that entire movie...oh and when the guy calls the horse "Butternuts". BTW, you're cool. I'm out.

Happy New Years to YOU!!
My favorite post this year was this one, "The Person I Will Be".

There have been a lot of good blog posts this year. But, since you offered the idea of shameless self promotion, this is one of my own faves of the year. Maybe not the best, but one of my faves, anyway.
http://wonderspot.net/2009/06/06/hey-jealousy/
And a Happy New Year to you. I hope it's a much happier and easier one!

i must say that until i read your post on Kanye, i couldn't be convinced he was anything less than a giant turd after the VMA debacle. i do love how he spoke out against GWB after Katrina, however cringe-worthy it was at the moment.
a post that i wrote this year that was a'ight at best was the following:

best to you in the new year!

Wonderwall is my favorite "lifey" post, but "Nineteen" is my favorite overall.

I can never stop at one. Three-way tie for other people, please forgive me:
BHJ, Green Day Adopted My Son on MamaPop, because, well, I still think about it sometimes:

And Sarah's MamaPop Top Chef recaps would have actually caused me to wait around for them like the dork that I am even if we weren't friends.
Finally, Shannon des Roches Rosa's post on BlogHer, Facebook Stalking My Birth Son, was one of the most compelling things I've ever read online.

For me, this one.

Thanks, this encouraged me to go through my archives, which I hadn't planned to do. Interesting for New Year's Eve. Happy 2010!

Wonderwall was one of my very favorites. :)
However, the last paragraph of "Broken" (I just re-read...for fun) is just so beautiful. It really can be applied to any change in life.
Happy New Year!

Happy 2010! Here's to a better year next year for one and all...
In 2009, I almost gave up blogging, but my friends talked me off the ledge:

This one, because it still makes me laugh, and because playing with barbies while reenacting TLC shows is awesome, and I dare you to tell me any different.

Somehow, I missed your post about Kanye West, so I really enjoyed reading that this morning. It's nice to know that someone out there feels the same way about him that I do. If for no other reason, I will probably always love him for his GWB moment. He lacks some kind of filter, and sometimes it's awful, but sometimes it's awesome.
Happy 2010 to you!!

I love that video.
The thing I'm most proud of writing is The Little Series (in my sidebar).

I have read most of your list the first time around, but they're worth revisiting. I love your writing. Happy New Year, Tracey.
I think this is my favorite post from the year. Silhouettes http://clarity-chaos.blogspot.com/2009/11/silhouettes.html
